Sainte-Croix
For nature lovers, be they on their own, with their family or with a group, the discovery of the hiking trails in the Jura, combined with gourmet stops in the Alpine chalets Mont-de-la-Mayaz, Sollier and Casba are a feast from all points of view.
The walk takes place in three stages: from Col des Etroits, where you can leave your car on a parking. The hike starts with a lovely walk through the woods towards Saut-de-l’Eau. The first gourmet stop at la Mayaz Chalet invites hikers to sample cured sausage and Tomme served on a small board, as an aperitif (1st stage = 1 hour 30). The second stop lets visitors discover Chalet du Sollier, which is accessible by the marked path and across pastures. The famous “Chalet pasta” can be enjoyed surrounded by farm animals (donkeys, cows, Highlanders, and pigs. Second stage: 35 min).
The dessert can be eaten at the famous La Casba chalet, hidden in the fir trees in the direction of Chasseron (1,607 m). “Menegetz” or the cream cakes prepared by the proprietress are a must. In addition, Croix du Cochet, the summit dominating the entire valley, is close at hand (3rd stage: 20 min.). The return walk takes about 1 hour on a path called Chemin des Vaches.
This gourmet walk is only possible when the chalets are open, i.e. from the beginning of June to mid-October, every weekend and every day during school holidays. Allow 3.5 hours for the entire walk.
