Chexbres, a balcony on Lake Geneva

Chexbres overhangs Lake Geneva and the Lavaux vineyards, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Its white wine is to be enjoyed nice and cool after exploring the vineyard trails or after a train ride on the Lavaux Panoramic.

Le Deck, Chexbres

Chexbres dominates a vineyard that stretches down to Lake Geneva. The characteristic feature of Lavaux, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is its narrow terraces all the way down the slope.

These terraces started being developed as early as the 12th century under the influence of monks to optimize natural resources and to produce a highly appreciated wine. The Lavaux vineyard counts seven AOC wine appellations: Lutry, Villette, Epesses & Calamin, Dézaley, St-Saphorin, Chardonne, and Vevey-Montreux. It produces mainly fruity, dry wines that can be tasted in the village cellars. The illustrious vineyard can either be visited on foot on eight trails where viticulture is described, or with the Lavaux Panoramic, the little tourist train with rubber tires.

Departing from Vevey, the vineyard train presents an ideal way of traveling to Chexbres with a breathtaking panorama into the bargain.
